Checking the Furniture Delivery Route Before Buying an Apartment
Check an apartment furniture delivery route in Syria: identify essential items, their delivery form, route questions and the conditions of a provider assessment.
In this article

An apartment can accommodate your furniture once it is inside while leaving its arrival unresolved. For a buyer bringing a particular dining table, wardrobe or sofa, that uncertainty can change the furnishing budget and the usefulness of a shortlisted home. The question deserves attention before the purchase decision depends on keeping those pieces. Prepare an item-specific delivery brief that a suitable supplier or mover can assess, rather than treating a spacious room as an answer about the route.
This brief connects three things: the form in which the item would travel, the actual route to its intended room, and the conditions attached to any assessment. It also records what you would do if the preferred item could not be delivered as planned. It is a purchasing aid, not a method for calculating safe handling or promising that a piece will fit.
Identify the items that could change your decision
Start with the few possessions or intended purchases that matter most. Record an identifier, the exact model where known, its destination room and why keeping it matters. Distinguish a family-owned solid table from a table you have merely admired online. The first is an existing constraint; the second may still be replaceable. This distinction prevents a long furniture list from obscuring the one unresolved piece that could materially affect your apartment choice.
Ask the supplier or mover what dimensions and delivery information they need. An assembled product description may differ from the size of its packages or separate components. Record which version your information describes and where it came from. For existing furniture, photographs and available manufacturer information may help a provider decide whether further examination is needed. Do not assume that visible joints mean an item can be dismantled, or that removing a part is included in a proposed service.
IKEA Portugal's delivery information directs customers to product package dimensions when considering access and identifies doorways, halls, stairs and lifts as relevant. This provides useful background for asking about the item as delivered. Its delivery coverage, charges and operating conditions are not evidence of a service available in Syria. Keep the supplier's own current information for your selected piece with the brief.
Describe one continuous route to the intended room
Give the route a clear identity: the building entrance, the particular staircase or lift being considered, the apartment door and the room where the item would be placed. A useful description follows the piece through each transition. A photograph of an entrance and another of the living room can leave the turn between them completely unexplained. Note any section you could not see or measure with permission; an unseen landing should remain a question.
Where measurements are requested, label the location, units, date and person who recorded them. Distinguish a clear opening from the overall frame and explain any limitation in the observation. Let the delivery professional specify the measurements or visit they require. A buyer's collection of widths is not itself a handling assessment: turns, changes of level, overhead space and the way an item can be carried may require further consideration.
The guide to reading an apartment floor plan helps with the separate question of room dimensions and furniture placement. Link the two records using the same item identifier, so a sofa approved for the room is not accidentally marked as approved for arrival. If the proposed destination changes from one bedroom to another, ask whether the route assessment still covers it.

Obtain an answer with a defined scope
Send the provider the exact item information and route record together. Ask what they have assessed, what remains unseen and whether their response depends on a site visit or additional details. Preserve the response with its date and the product version. A reply concerning a modular sofa should not be transferred to a similar-looking one-piece design, even if the assembled dimensions appear close.
John Lewis's UK delivery information distinguishes fully assembled furniture from flat-packed alternatives and advises discussing access concerns using dimensions. The useful principle is to match the assessment to the delivery form. The retailer's UK procedures are not Syrian requirements or a recommendation of a local provider. Obtain the relevant answer from the party actually being considered for your delivery.
Record the status precisely: information supplied, additional inspection requested, assessment received subject to stated conditions, or unresolved. Avoid converting “send us a photograph of the landing” into “delivery confirmed”. If a provider proposes a route involving an alteration or exceptional arrangement, refer that proposal to the appropriate responsible parties before relying on it. This brief does not authorise removing doors, changing common areas or undertaking specialist lifting.
Separate physical feasibility from arrangements and permission
An assessment that considers a route physically possible may still depend on access being arranged. Ask who can confirm the use of the proposed shared entrance or lift, any relevant delivery arrangements, and how the provider will coordinate with the building. Record who supplied each answer. An intermediary's expectation should remain attributed until the responsible person confirms the arrangement.
Be specific about the proposed service endpoint. Delivery to the building entrance, delivery into the apartment and assembly in the intended room are different scopes to clarify. Ask whether packaging, preparation, assembly or a further visit is part of the supplied proposal, and obtain actual terms where these affect your choice. Do not fill gaps with an assumed standard charge, available crew or guaranteed date.
The broader parking and building access comparison covers everyday arrival and shared routes. Keep this furniture brief attached to it, with separate answers for the chosen items. Doing so makes it easier to distinguish a generally convenient building from a building whose suitability still depends on one important delivery question.
Compare a workable alternative before committing
Consider a hypothetical buyer who owns a solid dining table and is comparing two apartments. The table fits the planned dining position in both. For Apartment A, the mover requests further information about a turn after the entrance; for Apartment B, the mover has assessed the supplied route subject to access being arranged. The difference is the completeness and conditions of the assessment, not proof that either delivery will succeed.
The buyer can investigate A's unresolved turn, consider a different table, or reconsider how important retaining the existing one is. Each alternative has its own consequence: a replacement needs an actual specification and price, while changing the furnishing plan may affect how the room will be used. Do not record an imagined workaround as if somebody has agreed to perform it.
Finish with a short decision note for each essential item: preferred option, current assessment, unresolved condition, acceptable alternative and who will obtain the next answer. Revisit the note if the product, route or delivery scope changes. The result should help you judge whether the apartment supports your intended home and budget, without allowing an attractive room photograph to settle a question it cannot answer.
